Brand New Computer suite for Kingly House

At Kingly Care we want our staff and resident groups to have easy and safe access to computers and the internet for their learning and development; leisure purposes; information and research, and communication with others via email or social networking.

It is important to ensure that our residents are able to enjoy the feelings of inclusion when communicating with family and friends and for that to be available at a time which is appropriate to them and their individual needs.

Therefore, Kingly Care will be installing two PC's for residents which are networked and have internet access. A further two laptops with wireless connectivity will be available for residents to use in their rooms; these may also be used for presentations to families and purchasers regarding the activities and facilities we have here for our residents.

All of the PC's are intended to incorporate a webcam facility, which will give residents the opportunity to utilise Skype and online interactive phone calls; this is particularly useful for residents that have friends or relatives living further afield.

Kingly House offers a program of relaxation

The benefits of relaxation are numerous and have renowned impact on reducing stress, tension and anxiety which is well supported in research literature. The techniques used and taught can be beneficial in aiding sleep, coping with fatigue and pain control and in practicing controlled deep breathing.

Studies have shown that taking time to relax has clear and positive health benefits. When the body is relaxed the heart rate slows, lowering blood pressure and slowing breathing rate which increases blood flow to the muscles and decreases muscle tension. This can have positive benefits which include increased energy, improved immunity and enhanced concentration levels. Using relaxation to reduce the impact of stress and anxiety on the body is also linked to improved mental wellbeing and achieving a balanced emotional state.

As such relaxation is a valuable therapy for people who experience a wide variety of conditions and further more is beneficial to all in providing space for positive reflection, mental escapism and quiet time away from busy schedules to enable life balance and improve wellbeing.

Staff at Kingly House felt it important to provide all its residents with the opportunity to experience the benefits of relaxation and a new relaxation group session has been set up and is facilitated on a weekly basis by Occupational Therapists. The group sessions provide quiet and protected time for individuals to experience relaxation, reduce muscle and bodily tension and develop calmness of the mind with the ultimately aim of enabling physical, cognitive and emotional sense of stillness and calm. Individual relaxation sessions are also offered to residents as required and these sessions are tailored to meet the individual’s specific health and emotional needs.
